NHS & Private Flu Vaccination

Flu can be much more than a bad cold. For some people, it can lead to serious illness, complications and hospital treatment.

Having your flu vaccination each year is one of the best ways to help protect yourself, your family and vulnerable people in your community.

At Nigel Williams Pharmacy, we make it simple to get protected. Our flu vaccination service is available in a professional pharmacy setting, with appointments carried out by trained members of our team.

You may be eligible for a free NHS Wales flu vaccination if you are in one of the eligible groups for the current flu season.

This may include:

1. People aged 65 and over
2. Pregnant women
3. Adults with certain long-term health conditions
4. Unpaid carers
5. People living with someone who has a weakened immune system
6. Frontline health and social care workers
7. Care home workers and domiciliary care workers
8. People living in a long-stay residential care setting
9. Other eligible groups identified by NHS Wales for the current flu season

Eligibility can change each year. If you are unsure whether you qualify for a free NHS flu vaccination, please contact us and our pharmacy team will be happy to check for you.

Please note: children who are eligible for a flu vaccination are usually vaccinated through their GP surgery or school vaccination programme. Our pharmacy team can advise you if you are unsure where to go.

If you are not eligible for a free NHS flu vaccine, you can still choose to have a private flu vaccination at Nigel Williams Pharmacy.

A private flu vaccination is suitable for many adults who want to reduce their risk of flu and help avoid passing it on to family, friends, colleagues or vulnerable people.

Private flu vaccination: £22.00

Availability may vary by branch and during busy periods, so we recommend booking in advance.

Your appointment will be quick and straightforward.

During your appointment, our pharmacy team will:

1. Check your details
2. Confirm whether you are eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination, if applicable
3. Ask a few simple health questions to make sure the vaccine is suitable for you
4. Explain what to expect after the vaccination
5. Give the vaccine in your upper arm
6. Record the vaccination appropriately

You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions before the vaccination is given.

If you only have a minor illness, such as a mild cold, you may still be able to have your flu vaccine.

If you have a high temperature or feel very unwell, it is usually best to wait until you have recovered.
